With “Europe Rings For Peace”, the common ringing of peace was powerfully renewed – and Chemnitz, as European Capital of Culture 2025, was a central starting point for this special moment.

Europe Day focuses on the European peace project. At 6 pm, bells from all over Europe united in a symbolic act: from Norway to Spain, from the Netherlands to Ukraine, from Austria to the partner cultural capitals Nova Gorica (Slovenia) and Gorizia (Italy). Probably the most remote bell rang out on the small island of Tristan da Cunha in the South Atlantic, in the Catholic church of St. Joseph in Edinburgh of the Seven Seas. Several hundred participants took part – parishes, towns, initiatives, carillonneurs and many committed local people.

In Chemnitz, the Peace Ringing was celebrated as part of the European Week of the Capital of Culture program with a moving event on the market square. Music, words of hope and pausing together made this moment an emotional highlight.

Everyone was able to participate in their own way – with bell ringing, short concerts or silent prayers for peace. It was precisely this diversity that made the bond across borders tangible.

We would like to thank everyone who took part – in Chemnitz and throughout Europe.
“Europe Rings For Peace” was not just an acoustic sign, but a tangible promise: Peace needs remembrance, community and the courage to hope.

We would like to see a sequel for 2026 – perhaps with even more participants and new sounds of solidarity.

Interested parties can already
